QUESTION - PERSUADE - REFER
Suicide is occurring in epidemic proportions. It occurs most often with men, but no one is immune. Suicide has taken the lives of young children and the elderly. Even our peaceful city of Woods Cross is not immune. Suicide is the most preventable cause of death. Suicide is a permanent solution to problems that are temporary. Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a simple and vital tool to help.
-
QPR is a simple program designed to help you help someone who is considering suicide.
-
QPR is not intended to be form of counseling or treatment.
-
QPR is intended to offer hope through positive action.
QPR is intended to teach those who are in a position to recognize the warning signs, clues, and suicidal communications of people in trouble to ACT vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy.
WHO NEEDS TO KNOW QPR?
If you are a professional caregiver, police officer, fireman, parent, clergy, school nurse, coach, teacher, youth leader, paramedic, school counselor, concerned neighbor or citizen, public servant, co-worker, or a friend, you will most likely have firsthand contact with someone contemplating suicide.
WE CAN ALL BECOME GATEKEEPERS
A Gatekeeper is ANYONE in a position to recognize a crisis and warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. This is you. By recognizing someone's cries for help, suicide can be prevented.
Gatekeeper training is offered to groups of any size right here in Woods Cross. Wally Larrabee is a certified Gatekeeper Instructor and would be happy to speak with you about coming to train either adult or youth groups, in a fireside setting or at school.
